Software Engineer

Twilio's Voice Connectivity Trust team seeks a Software Engineer to support customers using voice solutions. The engineer will participate in all software development lifecycle phases including requirements gathering, technical design, estimation, sprint planning, coding, testing, deployments, and on-call support. Engineers own and maintain distributed production services using Agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement real-time services with high throughput and low latency requirements
• Collaborate with stakeholders on customer needs and scalable solutions
• Communicate technical ideas through detailed documentation
• Scale complex distributed platforms with global presence emphasizing availability, reliability, and media fidelity
• Develop innovative solutions for voice channel problems

Required Skills

• 2+ years hands-on experience with JVM-based distributed applications
• RESTful services, API design, event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS)
• CI/CD pipeline understanding
• Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, OpenStack, Azure)
• Strong Java fundamentals
• Demonstrated proficiency working with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar)
• Proven ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability
• Excellent written communication skills for AI prompting and documentation
• Strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, OS, distributed systems)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Team collaboration skills

Desired Qualifications

• On-call rotation and incident response experience
• Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana)
• SQL/NoSQL database and caching technologies
• Production backend scaling expertise
• SIP and STIR/SHAKEN protocol knowledge
